Simple Chicken Biryani Recipe | Easy Homemade Pakistani Style

🌸 Easy Chicken Biryani Recipe (Serves 3–4)

📝 Ingredients:

  • Chicken – 500g (cut into medium pieces)

  • Basmati Rice – 2 cups (washed & soaked 20 mins)

  • Onion – 2 large (thinly sliced)

  • Tomato – 2 medium (chopped)

  • Yogurt – ½ cup

  • Ginger Garlic Paste – 2 tbsp

  • Green Chilies – 2 (slit)

  • Cooking Oil – ½ cup

  • Whole Spices – 1 bay leaf, 3 cloves, 3 green cardamom, 1 cinnamon stick, 1 black cardamom (optional)

  • Red Chili Powder – 1 tsp

  • Turmeric – ½ tsp

  • Coriander Powder – 1 tsp

  • Garam Masala – 1 tsp

  • Salt – to taste

  • Fresh Coriander & Mint Leaves – ½ cup (chopped)

  • Lemon Juice – 2 tbsp

  • Warm Milk with Saffron or Yellow Food Colour – 2 tbsp (optional for colour)


🍳 Method:

1. Cook Rice

  1. Boil 6 cups water with 1 tsp salt & 1 bay leaf.

  2. Add soaked rice and cook till 70% done. Drain and keep aside.

2. Prepare Chicken Masala

  1. Heat oil in a large pan. Fry sliced onions till golden brown, take half out for garnish.

  2. In the same oil, add whole spices, then ginger-garlic paste, sauté 1 min.

  3. Add chicken pieces, fry till colour changes.

  4. Add tomatoes, yogurt, red chili powder, turmeric, coriander powder, and salt.

  5. Cook on medium flame till chicken is almost done and oil separates.

3. Layering

  1. In a heavy-bottom pot, spread half the chicken masala.

  2. Add a layer of rice, then sprinkle coriander, mint, fried onions, lemon juice, and a little food colour /saffron milk.

  3. Repeat with remaining chicken and rice. Top with garnish.

4. Dum (Steam Cooking)

  • Cover tightly (you can seal with dough or just a heavy lid).

  • Cook on very low heat for 15–20 minutes.
