 Shawarma Recipe (Chicken)

A simple, juicy, and authentic Middle Eastern-style chicken shawarma you can make at home.

🍳Ingredients:

• Chicken boneless 500g (thin strips)
• Yogurt 3 tbsp
• Lemon juice 2 tbsp
• Garlic paste 1 tbsp
• Olive oil 2 tbsp
• Salt 1 tsp
• Black pepper 1 tsp
• Paprika 1 tsp
• Red chilli powder 1 tsp
• Cumin powder 1 tsp
• Coriander powder 1 tsp
• Turmeric ¼ tsp
• Vinegar 1 tbsp
• Pita bread / tortilla wraps as needed

🥣For Garlic Sauce (Touma):

• Mayonnaise ½ cup
• Yogurt 2 tbsp
• Garlic paste 1 tsp
• Lemon juice 1 tbsp
• Salt 1 pinch

Fillings:

• Lettuce or cabbage shredded
• Tomatoes sliced
• Onions sliced
• Pickles sliced
• Fries (optional but delicious)

🥘Method:

  1. In a bowl add yogurt, lemon juice, garlic paste, olive oil, and all spices. Mix into a thick marinade.

  2. Add chicken strips and coat well. Marinate for at least 1 hour (overnight gives best taste).

  3. Heat a pan with 1 tbsp oil and cook the chicken on medium flame until golden and fully cooked.

  4. Prepare garlic sauce by mixing mayo, yogurt, garlic, lemon juice, and salt.

  5. Warm pita bread or tortillas.

  6. Spread garlic sauce, add chicken, vegetables, pickles, and fries.

  7. Roll tightly and toast on pan for 1–2 minutes for a perfect shawarma wrap.

• Add a little smoked flavor by placing a burning coal with oil in the cooked chicken for 1 minute.
• Thinly cut chicken tastes more authentic.
• Use pickled cucumbers for real shawarma flavor.
